Ampalaya seedlings

My planted some ampalaya seedlings. The trellises are ready and we're only waiting for the seedlings to grow up.
The young leaves look different from the mature ones. I wonder if they are already bitter at this stage. Have you tried ampalaya with beef and black beans already?

Talbos ng kamote and malunggay

Two of the staples we plant at home are kamote and malunggay. Whenever we need greens, they're just a pick away. Mix them with tanglad or lemongrass and you've some heavenly salad! Here's one salad I made with an Asian vinaigrette. Sarap!

We got worms!

We just got some African nightcrawlers and transferred them to their containers. Were they fat! We're feeding them dried leaves and manure. We actually have more substrate than worms, but it's a start. Can't wait to see them multiply...

Siling labuyo

Siling labuyo grow profusely in our backyard. We can't eat all of them though. Frequently, our chickens help us out to them. What else to do with them? Make some spicy atsara! The latest atsara I made used ingredients that I just picked from the garden - green papaya, siling labuyo (lots of them) and ginger.

Farm life in Laguna...

Just random posts on life on a farm in Laguna. I go home on weekends to my parents' farm in Pila Laguna where we have 12 dogs, eight cats, two turkeys, one piglet named Peggy and an assortment of chickens. My dad just got started on vegetable garden, though the tomato in the picture just sprouted out of nowhere. Oh, I forgot the worms...
